Penny loafer
well made with beautiful leather
What more is there to say about the iconic penny loafer? We've certainly made our mark over the years with our Beefroll Penny Loafer, one of the five pairs of shoes that every man needs. When we started to think about how we might improve upon the Beefroll two things came to mind - style and versatility. Our pinch penny style is effortlessly cool, just ever so slightly more sophisticated than the beefroll with sleeker lines and burnished leather. We utilized Horween's bulldog leather, a full grain cowhide that is burnished by hand here at Rancourt & Co. We left these unlined so you can still wear them without socks if you want but we added double leather soles so you don't have to worry about burning through the soles too quickly. Go ahead and wear these every day, they were made for it. This is a pair of loafers that just about does it all. Genuine handsewn moccasin construction. Made in Maine, USA. The perfect summer loafer: pair with chinos, a lightweight oxford shirt, and a panama hat and we promise you'll be the best dressed guy at the BBQ.

The leather on these is more flexible and stretchy. Consequently, these ended up being too big even though I ordered my normal size. I’m between a 9 1/2 and 10 D in shoes overall with a slightly larger left foot. I had to exchange these for a 9 1/2.
Color is vibrant, giving a natural patina that warms (not darkens) over time. Heel sturdy giving the first few years a solid landing for anyone heavier on their heels. Construction is impeccable, while the sturdiness of stitching makes it clear that these loafers are built to last. Flexibility of the arch came with time, but if you struggle with collapsed arches, like myself you will appreciate the firmness of the shoes foundation. This was my first Rancourt & Co. purchase and I believe they are truly masters of classic American footwear. My hesitation of such an investment in something I wear daily or weekly (depending on the season) was quickly quelled with a call where it was clear this family understands the craft, sizing and importance of quality. Recommend as a legacy company to be added to your wardrobe.
***For the flat and sometimes fat footed folks like myself, consider your orthotics when going through the sizing process which again, I highly recommend. I stretched mine for one month prior to wearing as my feet swell, and I was able to stay blister free my first wear. The leather is stiff but the more these age, the better they feel and look***
Hello,
Thank you for the review! Your support and recommendation are greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Rancourt & Co.
This is my first pair of Rancourt footwear and after a month of wearing I am pleased. The Tan Bulldog leather is unique; not too light or dark in color, but just right. I consider this leather to be medium firm, not too soft or too hard, again just right. The craftsmanship seems to be of high quality, I imagine done by highly skilled workers.
My size in the Alden Indy Boot is 12.5B and for Allen Edmonds shoes or boots I wear a 13B. My pair of Rancourt Eastport loafers is a size 13B and provides a proper fit.
