The Best Shoes to Wear With Denim
Well-Worn Paths
Chapter 4 — The Path Continues
Over the past couple months in our Well-Worn Paths series, we have followed the journey of a Rancourt shoe from its earliest beginnings in our Lewiston factory.
We explored how each pair is made from leather selection and cutting to stitching, true moccasin handsewn construction, and finishing. We reflected on the path we have chosen as a company the people, traditions, and community that have shaped our craft for nearly six decades.
Now the path moves outward.
Once a pair leaves our factory doors, its story becomes something new. It becomes part of everyday life — worn through routines, places, and moments that give the shoes their character.
In the coming weeks, we will begin following those paths beyond Lewiston, exploring where our shoes go and the lives they move through.
A natural place to begin is with one of the most enduring combinations in any wardrobe: denim and well-made leather shoes.
Timeless footwear for the most enduring fabric
Few combinations in a wardrobe feel as natural as denim and well-made leather shoes.
Whether paired with loafers, moccasins, or boots, denim works best with footwear that shares the same qualities: durability, comfort, and character that develops with time.
At Rancourt & Co., many of our most enduring styles were designed with exactly this kind of everyday wear in mind. Oxfords/Bluchers, mocs, and boots offer the kind of relaxed versatility that pairs naturally with denim equally at home on a morning coffee run, a walk through town, or a weekend along the Maine coast.
Here are several styles that pair especially well with denim, and why they continue to be staples in wardrobes that value craftsmanship, comfort, and understated design.
The Belgrade Camp Loafer:
Relaxed Style for Denim Days
Some shoes naturally belong with denim. The Belgrade Camp Loafer is one of them.
Built using traditional handsewn moccasin construction and crafted in Dark Brown Rowdy Bison leather, this loafer offers the easy comfort of a camp moc with the streamlined simplicity of a slip-on. The textured bison leather adds depth and character, while the unstructured design keeps the shoe lightweight and flexible for everyday wear.

Where more structured lace-up boots can lean rugged, the Belgrade Camp Loafer offers a lighter, more relaxed approach. Its traditional camp-moc lacing keeps the silhouette secure while maintaining the easy comfort that defines moccasin construction.
The rich tone and natural texture of Rowdy Bison leather contrast beautifully with indigo and vintage-wash denim alike, creating a look that feels effortless without losing character.
It is the kind of shoe that feels just as appropriate for a morning coffee run as it does for a long afternoon wandering through town, the everyday moments where well-worn shoes quietly become part of the routine.

How to Wear It With Denim
-
Straight or slim denim with a clean cuff
-
Dark indigo jeans to highlight the depth of the bison leather
-
Vintage or faded denim for relaxed weekend wear
Like the best denim, the Belgrade Camp Loafer only improves with time. The leather softens, the patina deepens, and the shoe becomes shaped by the miles traveled in it.
The Acadia Chukka:
Denim’s Perfect Everyday Boot
For those who prefer the slightly more rugged profile of a boot, the Acadia Chukka offers one of the most natural pairings with denim.

With its clean two-eyelet chukka silhouette and handsewn moccasin construction, the Acadia Chukka sits comfortably between casual and refined. It has the versatility of a traditional moccasin but with the added structure and coverage of a boot, making it an ideal companion for cooler weather and everyday wear.
Crafted from richly textured leather and built on a durable natural rubber lactae hevea sole, the Acadia Chukka is designed for movement. The leather softens and develops character with time, while the true handsewn construction allows the upper to flex naturally with the foot.

When paired with denim, the balance feels effortless.
A dark indigo jean with a clean cuff, like the one shown here, highlights the natural grain of the leather while allowing the moccasin stitching and silhouette of the boot to stand out. The proportions work particularly well with slim or straight-leg denim, creating a look that feels relaxed but intentional.
How to Wear the Acadia Chukka with Denim
-
Dark indigo denim for a classic everyday look
-
Cuffed jeans to highlight the moccasin stitching and leather texture
- Chambray or flannel shirts for an easy heritage pairing
Whether worn on a morning walk to the coffee shop or through a full day of work and errands, the Acadia Chukka carries the same philosophy as the denim beside it: durable materials, honest construction, and a character that only deepens with time.
The look comes together naturally when paired with the Acadia Tote Rowdy Bison / Field Tan Canvas. Crafted with the same Dark Brown Rowdy Bison leather used in the chukka and balanced with durable Field Tan canvas, the tote echoes the same rugged materials and understated design. It is an easy companion for the day ahead, whether carrying a laptop, a notebook, or the everyday essentials that follow you from morning errands to the end of the day.

Like the best denim, it is made to be worn often, and to grow better with every mile.

Rugged Leather and Worn-In Denim
Some combinations simply belong together. Rugged leather and worn denim are one of them.
The Classic Ranger Moc – Rye Crazy Horse is crafted from full-grain pull-up leather known for its rich texture and ability to develop character over time. As the leather flexes and creases with wear, subtle variations in tone emerge, creating a patina that reflects the miles traveled in them.

Paired with denim, this natural aging process becomes even more apparent. The fading of indigo and the deepening of leather color begin to mirror one another, forming a combination that feels both effortless and authentic.
Best denim pairings

Why Denim and Handsewn Shoes Work So Well
There is a deeper reason why the pairing feels so natural.
Both denim and handsewn footwear share a philosophy of durability and gradual transformation. They are not meant to remain pristine. They are meant to evolve.
At Rancourt & Co., each pair of shoes is handcrafted in Lewiston, Maine using traditional techniques that prioritize longevity and comfort.
Over time, the leather softens, the stitching settles, and the shoe becomes uniquely shaped by the wearer’s life.
Denim follows the same path. It fades, creases, and softens with every mile.
Together, they form one of the most enduring combinations in a modern wardrobe.
