Description
Back in 2018 we realized that something was missing from our footwear collection - a warm, comfortable, durable, and water resistant winter boot - so after months of development and testing we arrived at the Freeman winter boot. First and foremost the Freeman is incredibly warm - it is fully lined with a curly merino wool shearling - this shearling is light, soft, and extremely warm for it's weight. Next, the Freeman is crafted from Horween's superlative Chromexcel leather - highly water-resistant, durable, and easy to care for. Lastly, the sole unit on this boot is so supportive and grippy it can pull double-duty as a light duty hiker. We combined a leather midsole with a storm welt with a supportive foam midsole wedge and the Vibram Christy Arctic Grip. Vibram's Arctic Grip outsoles provide superior traction on wet ice and snow. You won't find a sole better suited to the elements than this. The Freeman is truly the last winter boot you'll ever need.

Great winter boot

I finally found a proper winter city boot that can withstand some abuse while remaining decently stylish. I expect that the shearling will get worn way before the rest of the boot, as the construction is flawless. I live in Montreal, and the mix of snow, slush, puddles and salt is notoriously harsh on footwear. I do not foresee any issues with this pair with proper and frequent care. The warmth provided by the boot is great!

Amazing boots! Super warm, good style, really good make. 1000% worth the price. Got them just in time for winter and they've been a terrific purchase.

Glue?

Nice boot, warm, decent sole in slick conditions. But, sole came unstuck. Sent an e-mail to customer service, never received a reply. Took them to Franks Boots here in Spokane and their cobbler service reglued the sole, with the warning that the second time is not guaranteed.

Freeman boots

Love the boots but for the price the sole came not completely glued together. Pretty disappointing for a high quality handmade boot. You would think there would be some quality control, but seemingly they just throw the boots in a box and ship them. It’s going to be hard for me to trust them with another pair. I told them about this they want me to send them back. After I waited two and a half months to receive them.

Hello Spencer,

Thank you for the review! Our apologies for any inconvenience this has caused. Unfortunately, there is a particular bonding process that we use to glue the soles to the uppers. In some cases, the bonding process can fail. We look forward to repairing them for you.

Your support and feedback are greatly appreciated.

Nice, but could be better

I'm a 12.75 heel to toe, B/C heel, nearly D toes, and a 14.5 heel to ball, but still have long toes. I have franken feet, and at some point I should probably have lasts made for me. For now, I do best with mocs made of a stretchy leather.

But I moved north, and my Iron Rangers and Merchants just aren't comfortable enough for how often I wear boots. I have a lot of trouble with boots, my feet are weird. And I needed something warmer as well, if I want to spend time outside year round. This fits the bill for the latter need.

I normally buy 13B rangers and pennies, so my heel fits, and the leather stretches in the toe box to fit my normal width toes. This helps my foot stay in place, and also molds to my forward instep that is so problematic in sturdier boots. Because of the shearling, that doesn't really matter, and these are going to be more sneaker like. The 13 is a bit too wide, and a bit too long, but the 12 won't solve width because it's going to be more uneven in length vs width. Right now I'm going to have to wear this with heavy full cushion socks, or medium full cushion with liners at a minimum. I don't foresee that being a problem, it's going to be cold, and I don't have great circulation

It's a nice high boot, giving you extra ankle support should you slip. The downside is, out of the box they're a bit awkward to sit in. A bar stool is fine, and they'll probably break-in in this regard with time. Hopefully not too much, or you'll lose some of that…
