Heritage Brown Leather is impregnated with a proprietary blend of natural oils and waxes, this special tannage gives the leather a number of distinctive properties. It has a beautiful bright finish, unique "pull-up" character, soft and flexible structure, and a "self polishing" property. Over time the leather will "bloom", which means the oils and waxes make their way to the surface, leaving a light white film on the leather. It's as simple as buffing with a horsehair brush or soft cloth and you'll restore the beautiful finish of the leather. In addition to the unrivaled quality of Heritage Brown, we've crafted these shoes without a leather lining and using our genuine handsewn moccasin construction. This was my first foray into the world of loafers. I was drawn to Rancourt for the quality leathers and handsewn construction, recommended all around on the internet. What finally sold me was a YouTube video of a guy from their shop handsewing a pair. I love the moccasin vibe which I find to be very versatile. They can be dressed all the way down with jeans or shorts, but also work well at an office or conference at the smart casual level. I've even gotten some compliments on them, which is rare for me. The natural CXL leather adds to the versatility. The creasing I've gotten appears flattering - as opposed to some pretty gnarly loose grain I've had on cheaper leather shoes. I prefer to wear them with socks. I tried some moderately low no-show socks but they totally showed. So I've been wearing them with crew-length socks.
Breaking them in was a bit arduous. Size 12 sneakers and 11.5 in heritage boots usually work for me. A wider width like E or EE tends to work better. So I ordered an 11.5 E. The printable sizing guide on the website seemed to be way off. (I think it was recommending several sizes too small, but I may have been using it wrong). They felt totally fine when initially trying them on at home. Into the first evening of wearing them to the office, the left shoe felt like it was crushing the arch of my foot. Really unpleasant.
