Description
The Beefroll Penny Loafer is our most iconic style. Cut from unlined Horween Chromexcel it doesn't get any more uniquely American than this. Chromexcel is the flagship leather from the iconic Horween Tannery in Chicago, IL. Chromexcel is impregnated with a proprietary blend of natural oils and waxes, this special tannage gives the leather a number of distinctive properties. It has a beautiful bright finish, unique "pull-up" character, soft and flexible structure, and a "self polishing" property. Over time the leather will "bloom", which means the oils and waxes make their way to the surface, leaving a light white film on the leather. It's as simple as buffing with a horsehair brush or soft cloth and you'll restore the beautiful finish of the leather. Learn more about Horween's Chromexcel leather here.
In addition to the unrivaled quality of Chromexcel, we've crafted these shoes without a leather lining and using our genuine handsewn moccasin construction. As you wear them your feet will warm up the leather and they will literally mold to your feet. We are absolutely confident that these will become your favorite pair of shoes. The Beefroll is rounded out with a natural leather midsole and our Watertight oiled leather outsole for a modern yet sophisticated dress-casual look.

These loafers are great. The chromexcel leather is by far the highest quality I’ve felt in a shoe (including ca. 1960s Gucci loafers, far better than today’s version), and the sole is rock-solid. I wore these for a week straight out of the box with no socks, including many nights walking through Rome and a full 24-hour travel day, and they were more comfortable than sneakers. No break-in period required.
Color 8 is a bit more purple in-person than it show in photos, but is still a beautiful and unique tone that looks like it will wear in nicely.
Fit is slightly larger than most reviews indicate. I’m usually a 9.5, ordered a 9, and could do with a slightly tighter fit - still more than workable, but not the glove-tight fit recommended.
Received them within the week with no shipping delays or issues despite low stock.
These shoes were great but I ordered them in January and received them in May. Fits great, good craftsmanship - though the sole wears our pretty quickly. Will have to resole already.
I’ve been wearing them a lot over the summer, and they’re well broken in and very comfortable. They are 1/2 size down from brannock and went from perfect to a touch loose in the heel, causing slip. I bought a really thin leather insole and we’re back to perfect. If I bought a second pair in chromexcel, I’d probably go a full size down.
The shoe is a masterpiece and very comfortable. The customer service was very understanding and accommodate my request for return. Thank you for a wonderful experience. I definitely buy again and recommend you.
