These are, in my opinion, an improved version of the flimsier, thin soled, horsebit loafers offered by other shoe manufacturers over the years. They’re are a little more “conservative” looking- more American style than European - having a rounded, moc toe, with a thicker sole and heel. They look great dressed down with chinos, or with wool dress pants and a blazer.
The Rancourt & Co. Horsebit Loafer fits true to size, and are comfortable right out of the box. They are very well made, with high quality materials throughout. I own at least a dozen pair of Rancourt & Co. loafers, camp mocs, and boat shoes. I’ve yet to receive a pair with defects. Their quality control is excellent. I’m planning to order a second pair of these loafers in black. Great Company, great shoes! Thank you!
I’m a bit of a shoe snob. I bought these shoes on a whim visiting my sister in Philadelphia probably back in 2015 or so. I get compliments to this day about how excellent they look. I take great care in maintaining my shoes but that is only half the battle, Rancourt makes some of the best quality shoes in the world. When you take great shoes into a cobbler and they compliment you, it’s a nice feeling. Happy to have had these for so long and looking forward to additional pairs from this well run business.
I really love the shoes. They are very high quality, and quite comfortable. They are much more substantial in terms of weight and sole thickness than a black pair I own from another brand, famous for their horsebit loafers, so these can be worn year round. And maybe even (gasp) with socks in colder weather. They will clearly last for a very long time. The craftsmanship doesn't surprise me, as I own several other pairs of Rancourt shoes. My only complaint is that it took a very long time to receive them. I did have to send a pair back as they were a bit big, but even that first pair took 6 months to arrive. The exchange then took another 6 months, so about a year of waiting for the final product. Granted, I did buy them during their summer pre-sale, I know they are handmade, and it is a small company, but even so it seemed excessively long. The communication was mixed: always very polite when I inquired about the progress, but a repeated chorus of "not much longer, but longer than we thought..." each time I checked in. I almost cancelled the order several times because of this, as it felt like I was continuously being offered excuses for the delays. But I have them now, and the shoes are pretty spiffy. If it hadn't been for the year long wait, this would absolutely be a 5 star review.
Hello Thatcher,
Thank you for the review! Your support and feedback is greatly appreciated.

Rancourt & Co.
I have been wearing the Weltline Penny Loafers in a size 9.5 E for a few years and the Horsebit Loafers fit me exactly the same. The shoes were snug out of the box, but broke in easily on the first day and are quite comfortable. I highly recommend them and will likely get more colors in the future.
